Club Impact Demo Info

Unlike most nightclubs that host music 6 or 7 nights, Club Impact produces shows only once or twice a week, usually on Saturdays. The goals of producing live music shows are to put together exciting lineups that fill our venue to capacity, present a broad range of music genres, and because Impact is one of the only venues for people under 21, book artists that specifically cater to a young audience. Ideally we try to match national touring acts to emerging local ones to ensure that artists are constantly getting exposed to new audiences and are fairly compensated.

Be certain that we take every demo we receive into consideration and try to place every act that is appropriate for Impact onto bills that suit them. There are only a few slots available for the multitude of talented musicians in or touring through Tacoma. On the other hand, when you are placed, you are assured to have a great show.

Thanks in advance for your patience!

Here's what we are looking for in your demo:

ONE PIECE OF PAPER WITH THE FOLLOWING INFO:
• Band name and contact info
• What specific dates you are looking for, especially if you are touring
• What clubs or venues you have played at
• Average attendance number - what kind of draw you have with the all-ages crowd
• What bands you've played with
• What PR you do for shows that you play
• Two references of people that you have worked with (record labels, engineers, bookers, other bands, etc.)
• A CD, if you have one (extra bonus points for Vinyl!)

If you haven't built up your performing resume yet, here are a few helpful hints:
• Put on your shows!
• Informally, at a friend's house or art space
• Or more formally at cheap-to-rent venues, union halls, theaters, and community centers
• If you are between the ages of 14 and 24, become a volunteer at Club Impact and you are guaranteed to get a show!
• When you do get a show:
• Make your own flyers and distribute them to other music venues, coffee shops, record stores, and all your people
• Pool band money and buy an ad in a weekly paper (most offer band discounts) or try to get ads in some zines
• Make sure you invite all your friends and family! When you're first getting going, people won't come to your show unless you ask them to. If you are able to bring down a bunch of people, booking agents notice, will tell their friends and will book you again and again!
• Ask the door person for the attendance numbers at the end of the night so you can tell that to other agents and bookers when you are trying to get shows

What we don't look for in demos:
• Glossy photos
• Expensive packaging
• Racist, sexist, or homophobic band names, song names, or promo gimmicks

All Demos can be sent to:
Attn: Club Impact
207 S. 9th St.
Tacoma, WA 98402

Again, write what dates you are looking to play on the envelope if you are a touring band.

If you have questions that aren't answered here regarding the booking process, email Derek Smith at derek@clubimpact.org
